At the story Ulrich and George are trapped under a tree when they hear people coming towards them. They both at first thought it was their men looking for them but as they came closer Ulrich realized that the figures were wolves. What happens after that was most likely that Ulrich and George were killed because they were trapped under a tree. Even if they wiggled free the wolves would catch up to them and kill them anyways. Another example of the wolves killing Ulrich and George is that in the story the wolves hear the twos hunting call and starts running down the hill towards them. A wolf is a predator so if it’s running at you there is a strong chance that it’s going to kill you, plus the fact that there were 9ish. The end of the story implies that the wolves killed Ulrich and George.

In this story, Ulrich and George battle it out for the land until they find themselves stuck under a rather large tree. After they decide to yell for help, they see figures coming in the distance, and both think it is Ulrich's men coming, after they count the figures. As they start to come closer, they realize it is wolves. I think they were killed by the wolves, as they were conveniently trapped under a tree. Like Derek, I think there is no way that Ulrich and George could have gotten themselves out of this one, as they both had serious injuries. I think they deserve to have been eaten for not only hunting animals, but also arguing over the land. Karma!

  4. As Armaan and Derek have said, the story ends off with Georg asking Ulrich who was coming towards them, and Ulrich's reply was "Wolves". This gives me the idea that next, the wolves would come attack the two men and kill them. Both Ulrich and Georg could not get out from where they were stuck, so there would be no way they could save themselves in time considering the wolves were coming at a good speed. They had attracted the wolves by shouting out calls intended for their men to hear, and when Ulrich realized it was wolves, he could not even process it. He laughed "the idiotic chattering laugh of a man unstrung with hideous fear" which makes me predict that next, the pack of wolves would come and Ulrich and Georg would both be dead since they stood no chance against the wolves when they were hurt and trapped under the fallen tree.

At the end of the story, Ulrich and Georg are in a terrible situation. After compromising and declaring themselves friend while stuck under a huge tree, someone runs towards them. The "someone" was a pack of wolves. Now, instead of a morbid death of the two, the wolves are going to help Ulrich and Georg. While Ulrich and Georg thought they were waiting at death's door, the wolves began pawing at the tree. When the two men saw they might just live another day, they began to show the wolves to push the tree away. When the tree was rolled away, Ulrich's leg's were crushed under the pressure (badly broken) and Georg was half blind. They eventually got home, but were impaired for life. Don't we all love tragic endings?

  6. In the ending of the story, Ulrich and Georg hear people coming. Ulrich thinks that it is his people coming to get him. But, soon he realizes that the noises were coming from wolves. The story ends on a cliffhanger. But, I think that the chance of their groups of men finding them is too slim. So, i think that since the wolves were coming that they would not have lived. The wolves would have eaten them.

  7. While everybody else thinks that the untold ending to this story is negative, I would like to look at the positive possibilities. Perhaps Ulrich's and Georg's yells are heard, not only by the wolves, but by their friends. Their friends rush to save them, and instead of using their weapons to hurt eachother, they use them to save their leaders from death. Then the two groups turn on eachother but are pulled apart by the former rivals turned friends, Ulrich and Georg. Afterwards, they go home to a party at Georg's.

  8. In the story Ulrich and George are rival neighbors, fighting over land. Ironically, they both get trapped under a tree. They put their diffferences aside, and decide to become friends when they are rescued. They think all hope is lost, when they suddenly hear people coming towards them. They both at first, hoping it was their men. The closer the noises got, the more anxious the men got. The come to realize that the noises were actually wolves, not people. The story leaves off there. You have to infer what happens next. I think that Ulrich and Georg were killed by the wolves. I think this because the men were bloody, therefore, the wolves liked their scent. Even if they miracuously got free, the wolves would've hunted them down. Another thing that could've gotten the men killed is, when they first heard the wolves they thought were their men, they called them using their hunting call, which probably attracted them to the men. A wolf is a stong predator, very high up in the food cain, if a pack of wolves are chasing you, theres a very good chance you will be killed. The end of the story makes you wonder what happened to them, it makes you infer that the wolves killed Ulrich and George. The overall meaning I think, is don't let grudges get the better of you, because you never know if you are going to get the chance to apologize, you can die at any second.

In the story, Ulrich and Georg are rival neighbors because of a land disbute. When Ulrich catches Georg hunting on his land, they both get caught under a falling tree. While waiting for their men to come save them, they decide to settle their differences and become friends. They hear footsteps, thinking that its their men, but it turns out to be wolves instead. The story ends there, but I think that Ulrich and Georg were killed by the wolves. They were probably found because they called for help, but no one came. Also, they were cut up from the tree branches and had no ability to fight the wolves off due to the tree trapped them.

In the end of the story Ulrich and Georg face a brutal and morbid attack by the pack of wolves. They are clawed down to the bown left suffering for over twenty five minutes. When there fellow hunters found them the next day, well what was left of them, they were disgusted and all puked. Both sides didnt fight but instead ran home and were terrified by the brutal scene they had scene that morning. Sorry it's so horrofic but I couldnt think of anythig else.

  11. I agree with Brian, I think that despite Ulrich and Georg's perdicament they got out of it saftley. It would make sense that if the wolves heard them yell that their fellow hunters heard them as well. I think that the hunters came to the rescue and joined forces to help out their friends, thus ending the dispute that they had.

  12. At the end of the story they leave us with a cliffhanger.Ulrich and Georg were trapped under the tree and just realized a pack of wolves were coming at them. I believe that they would be dead.Since they were trapped they had no chance to free themselves to get away or shoot them with there guns.I think they would be all torn up from the scratching and biting. It would be a very horrific fight.

  13. At the end of the short story "The Interlopers", they leave off with Georg and Ulrich trapped under a tree and injured, unable to move. The two men had finally settled their differences, and they thought that some of their men had come to save them. However, they come to learn that the figures were not their men, but wolves. Next, I think that Georg and Ulrich will try to excape but will be unsucessful. In the end I think that they'll both be eaten by the wolves, even if they did try to fight back. I think this because earlier on in the story, it said how thier faces were caked in blood anyway so fighting back wouldn't be too much of an option. Although John said that their men may have come back to save them, I believe that this is unlikely because if they hadn't found them by then, they had most likely already given up on thier search.

  14. According to the story, one of the men identifies the interlopers as wolves. I can predict what happens next very easily because of my knowledge in animals and clues from the story. The result of the wolves finding the men will most likely lead to the animals eating the two. The parts of the story that signal this conclusion are: 1. The wolves were quickly running towards the men, and 2. There was a large amount of wolves together. These two clues apply to normal facts about wolves and furthur prove my prediction because: 1. Wolves are carnivores, and 2. Wolves usually hunt in packs. On top of all this, it just seems right for the story to end this way since both of the men originally wanted death upon each other. It's dark but humorous at the same time.

  15. When "The Interlopers" concludes, Georg and Ulrich are trapped under a fallen tree with a pack of wolves approaching. The last word, "Wolves", is in italics to make the reader fearful (at least, that is how I felt as I turned the page and realized there was no more to the story). Also, because it is the last word, it seems final: there is no chance of Ulrich and Georg escaping. If you think about the predicament they are in, escape does not seem likely anyway. The two men will die a painful, gory death. The story is meant to be ironic because just as they had become friends and worked out their differences, the two men saw what horrible fates awaited them.
By the way, Marta and Doug, I thoroughly enjoyed your stories.

As Georg and Ulrich see the interlopers approaching, they both assume that it is their own men coming to save them. Based on the amount of figures coming, they decide that it is Georg's men, but aren't worried either way, seeing as they had become friends. But, in fact, the interlopers were actually a pack of angry wolves, coming to kill them. Since the two hunters are stuck under a tree and badly injured, they suffer a terrible fate of being murdered and eaten by the wolves.
    The End.

Also, I agree that what happens to these two hunters is karma for all the killing of the animals that they had done prior to that day.

  18. After Georg and Ulrich became trapped under the fallen tree, they were arguing over whose men were going to find them first and kill the other. Eventually they decided that this fight had gone on long enough, and they became friends. Later, they saw dark figures approaching and their first thought was that it was their men. They soon find out that there are wolves approaching them, and I believe that the men were either killed or badly injured. This is because they could not escape from underneath the tree, so they were very vulnerable.

The Interlopers begins with Georg and Ulrich, two spiteful, territorial neighbors, lurking within the depths of a patch of forest land. Each neighbor is exasperated by the petty altercation regarding who is in possession of that patch of forest land and desires to murder his contemporary. Ulrich impulsively abandons his copse of mercenaries to search for Georg, and actually manages to stumble upon his adversary. Before either man could defeat his opponent, an exceedingly large tree branch descends upon the two men. This rather unfortunate occurrence prevents both Georg and Ulrich from firing a single gunshot, and assistance is unavailable to Georg and Ulrich. Eventually, Ulrich becomes cognizant of the imprudence of his rivalry with Georg and proffers Georg a flask of wine as a token of peace. Georg is reluctant to discontinue his altercation with Ulrich; however, Georg finally acknowledges the wisdom is forging an alliance with Ulrich. This agreement was created in vain, though, for soon after the alliance was established, several silhouettes appeared in the distance. These interlopers were wolves, intent upon feasting on their hapless prey.

  20. After Georg and Ulrich are trapped, they form an alliance. However, soon after the truce was made they see dark figures approaching them. They assume that the figures are some of their men but as the figures get closer they realize that they are no men. They are wolves. You can assume that they get killed by the wolves because wolves are ominous and they were trapped so the wolves would take their chance at their prey. It is a shame that the men didn't make that agreement earlier in their lives for if they did, they wouldn't have encountered the fate that they did.

Once Georg and Ulrich are trapped they decide to become friends. They have now broken the long line of enemies between their families. When they hea the interlopers coming they wonder whose pack it is. As they come closer they realize that it is not a pack of humans, but a pack of wolves. Assuming that the men are killed by the wolves, the tragedy becomes worse because of the truce they made. They finally promised that their families would become friends and now no one will ever know.

  22. When Georg and Ulrich are trapped under the tree. They become friends and don't want to kill eachother anymore. Then they hear a pack of wolves coming. They are the interlopers in the story. The story ends, but I assumed that they got killed. Finally after they became friends it was all for nothing because they both got killed. It left it at a cliff-hanger and I really wanted to know what happened next.
